Meaher State Park

This 1,327-acre park is situated in the wetlands of north Mobile Bay, and is a day-use, picnicking and scenic park with host of inexpensive events and activities, perfect for you and your Little this summer. There is a $3 per person park entry fee to enter Meaher State Park for day use only. You might choose to go fishing, hiking, picture taking, birding, etc. If you choose to go boating there is a $5 per boat entry fee. The park is open daily from 7am to 7pm (or sunset); the office open daily from 7 am to 3 pm, and park day use is permitted while gate is open from 7am to 5pm. For a list of programs and more information, click here. All programs (except for kayaking) are free to attend after paying the $3 entry fee to get into the park for anyone over 12 years old (12 and under get in for free).

Master Gardener

Bigs have you ever considered starting a project with your Little?  Master Gardener might be a good fit. The Alabama Master Gardener Volunteer Program is an educational volunteer-recruitment program offered through the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. Volunteers work with Extension to bring the latest horticultural information to their communities. In Mobile, the Master Gardener training program is offered once a year, beginning in early August and ending in early November.  A series of classes are held eachThursday from 9 am to 2:30 pm at the Jon Archer Center, 1070 Schillinger Road N, Mobile. The registration deadline for the Mobile County Master Gardener class is early June. Contact the Alabama Cooperative Extension System to obtain an application or for more information:  251-574-8445
